Ice rink in Prague

During winter there are several possibilities to spend your time in the capital of the Czech Republic. One of the most popular event in the city during the winter period is the Christmas market and the other outdoor activity ice skating.

In Prague there are several ice rinks all around the city when the weather gets chilly and we will write about the most visited and biggest ice rink in Prague. This ice rink in the city takes place at Ovocny trh which is a square located just right at Estates Theatre in the Old Town. It is one of the best programs for everyone from tourists to locals as well. The annual ice rink and the Christmas market together attract every year more and more people to the city.

If your are tired of sightseeing and you want to do some fun and you love speed, ice and skating then this is the perfect activity for you. The ice rink opens its gates this year from 6th December until 31st January next year. The ice rink is free for everyone during the whole time and you can also hire skates for 50 CZK. Every day the ice rink is open from 10 in the morning until 9.30 in the evening. The ice rink in Prague is held at Ovocny trh just behind the Estates Theatre, Old Town, Prague 1.

Prague is the capital city of the Czech Republic and it is one of the most visited and most popular European cities. This exciting city, apart from the greatest attractions all around the city, offers a wide range of activities and various programs in the whole year even in the winter.

There are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities from museums, cafes, restaurants, concerts, markets to festivals. In this article we will list some of the possibilities you can do during a visit in the winter in Prague.

Christmas Markets

One of the most popular programs during winter is the Christmas Market. The annual Christmas Market is waiting for every visitor from the middle of November until the first week of January. It is the best way to get ready for Christmas and get in to the festive mood. At the market you can try the best Czech foods and mulled wines and you can also do your pre-Christmas shopping. The Christmas Market in the city takes place at the Old Town Square in the centre of Prague. There is also another market at the Wenceslas square, not far from the Old Town Square.

Ice skating

During the winter the other popular activity is ice skating. In Prague from the beginning of winter there is a huge ice rink in the heart of the city. One of the biggest ice rinks are located at the Ovocny square. It is a perfect program for children and for everyone who likes speed combined with ice. At the ice rink apart from skating there are also other activities, live concerts and various kind of entertainments.

Cultural events

During the whole year including winter as well there are plenty of concerts all around in the city. Prague is famous of opera, ballet and classical music as well and there are multiple concerts and performances to find in the city’s opera houses, theatres and churches. This exhibition will present the connection between music and politics in the life of the Czech Republic.

The museum has a wide selection of audio, audio visual recordings and several artifacts from the revolution in the Czech Republic which was in 1848 to the present days. The Music and Politics exhibition will show the influence music and audio had on the political life. At the exhibition visitors will have the chance to have a closer look on the history of the Czech Republic and the Music and Politics exhibition will show the links between music and the politics how music was one of the forms of protest and how it was a weapon to the political power at the same time. The exhibition will show the visitors the relationship between music, the revolution, politics and the war. It will reveal the role of music and the celebrities in the political campaigns as well and at the exhibition visitors will have also the chance to discover more on the role of music how it was at the service of the political propaganda. The Music and Politics exhibition will take place at the National Memorial on Viktov Hill in Prague. The exhibition will be shown from 15th May 2014 until 29th March 2015.

Best hotel near O2 Arena

If you want to live in the hotel which is the best near the O2 Arena, then you better go for and reserve a room in Hotel Carol, a three star hotel. Because of its located near the O2 Arena, it is quite far away from the city center, but with the metro which is located only some hundred meters away, you can easily get to the city center of Prague from here.

Often as you come to a new town for a concert, you come together with a group of friends or colleagues, and then an apartment can be very useful. Hotels near CEZ Arena in Ostrava

I am going to CEZ Arena to watch hockey-matches in 2015. I am looking for a hotel very close to the arena. Can you please help me?

Thanks for asking. As you might know the CEZ Arena is the fourth largest hockey venue in Czech Republic. It has a capacity for more than 10,000 spectators, and it was originally built back in 1989. It is the homeground for HC Vitkovice today.

Hotels near CEZ Arena in Ostrava

If you want to live on a hotel near CEZ Arena in Ostrava, then there are a couple of hotels that can be found in less than 1km distance from the venue. The nearest place to accomodate near the venue is Hostel River, but it is worth noticing that this is just a hotel, and the quality and comfort comes thereafter.

The second closest hotel is 600 metres away from the CEZ Arena and the name is Hotel Morrison. This is a three star hotel, for sure not among the best, but if you do not require the best, this might still be more than good enough.

Then comes two more hotels just 100-200 metres further away than Hotel Morrison. These are both better, they have better ratings and more satisfied visitors, and those are Pension Antica and Hotel Victoria.

2015 IIHF World Championship

In 2015 the IIHF World Championship will be held in the Czech Republic. The tournament will take place in Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic and in Ostrava. Th event will be held at the O2 Arena in Prague and at Čez Arena in Ostrava.

The IIHF or International Ice Hockey Federation is an international, worldwide governing body of ice hockey and in-line hockey. The organisation is based in Switzerland in Zürich. The IIHF has 73 members including 52 full members Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, the United State, Mexico, North Korea, South Korea and so on. Most of the European countries are part of the federation and several other countries from all around the world are part of it too. The federation has 18 associate members and 2 affiliate members as well. The associate members either don’t participate fully in the international championships or do not have an international national body of ice hockey. The associate members of the federation are the following Argentina, Brazil, Macedonia, Malaysia, Oman, Portugal and so on.

The International Ice Hockey Federation manages international hockey tournaments and maintains the IIHF World Ranking as well. Although the IIHF organises international events and hockey tournaments the IIHF has only a little control of hockey in North America as they have their own international hockey federation the NHL with other words National Hockey League which is the highest organization there. The Hockey USA and the Hockey Canada has their own rule books. The IIHF was founded in May in 1908 in the capital city of France, in Paris. The International Ice Hockey Federation is responsible for the international hockey tournaments such as the world championships.

2015 IIHF World Championship in Czech Republic

Next year, in 2015 the IIHF World Championship will be held in the Czech Republic. The tournament will take place in Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic and in Ostrava. Th event will be held at the O2 Arena in Prague and at Čez Arena in Ostrava. The capacity of the O2 Arena is around 17000 and the other arena the Čez can host around 10000 visitors. The first ice hockey match of the World Championship will be 1st May in 2015 and the last game of the tournament will be 17th May 2015 at 8.45 in the evening at O2 Arena in Prague. This year in the tournament Sweden, Canada, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Latvia, France, Germany, Austria are in the group A and Finland, Russia, the United States, Slovakia, Norway, Belarus, Slovenia and Denmark are in group B.

All matches in Group A will be played in Prague in the O2 Arena, while all matches in Group B will be played in CEZ Arena in Ostrava. The Other World exhibition

The exhibition The Other World will be held at the Ethnographic Museum in the capital of Czech Republic in Prague. The exhibition is focused on the subject death and dying, quite similar to the exhibition about Godmother Death in the Czech Museum of Music.

It is a really common and popular topic among the different kind of artists and it can be found in every culture and religion. Death is part of the human life and the life itself and it can be discovered in the every day life of the world. The exhibition will show the theme death in a new way and it displays a wide range of collection of this subject. The exhibition shows the death in the folk culture of the 19th and 20th centuries. At the exhibition visitors will have the chance to have a closer look on this subject and the related habits as well such as the funerals, the last way to the grave and the last final sleep.

The related objects and habits of the death are presented at the exhibition and visitors can discover the coffins, masks, crosses, candles, prayer books, holy pictures and so on. The other topic of the exhibition is the magical and protective devices against death and illness which was used also as a way of saying thank you for the saved souls. The exhibition will take place in Prague at the Ethnographic Museum. The exhibition will be shown from 24th July 2014 until 12th July 2015.

Life in the Czech Countryside: Exhibition

This exhibition shows the every day life in the Czech countryside at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The exhibition “Life in the Czech Countryside” presents the beautiful landscapes, the Bohemian fields and groves to the visitors.

The exhibition will take the visitors into a real rural house where you can experience the life back in that period of time. Visitors will have the chance to have a closer look on the households of the 19th and 20th century and to see the activities that took place in that period. At the exhibition there will be shown different types of tools, stationary artefacts, interactive models and games to every visitors.

The exhibition’s main goal is to show the country life of the Czech Republic as you have never had the chance to see it before. The exhibition is trying to bring closer to the every day life at the country side to the audience and to show it in a new perspective. At the exhibition has a separate part for the natural surroundings such as the Czech farms and the Moravian and Silesian countryside. The exhibition will take place at the Ethnographical Museum in Prague. The exhibition will be shown from 1st March 2014 until 3rd of April 2016.
