Five places you should eat as you come to Prague!

No matter why you are coming to Prague, it is a fact that you need to eat something! Maybe you want to spend as little money as possible and just buy bread in the grocery store, but if you have a little bit more money and want to turn it into an everlasting memory, we have some pieces of advice for you. The Czech Republic is known for great food, lots of beer, super service, and juicy meat. So, where should you go to feed your stomach and to experience something special at the same time?

The goal of this article is not to list the “best” restaurant in Prague. If you ask the people writing for the Michelin Guide, the best restaurants in Prague are “Field” and “La Degustation Boheme Bourgeoise.” These are the only two restaurants in Prague with one Michelin star each. So, if you want the highest rated restaurants based on quality, ingredients, and that makes your meal feel like a piece of art, those are the restaurants you should visit.

Instead our intention is to share with you some restaurants and dinner options that will give you a lasting memory, because it was special in one way or another. Are you ready?

Five dinners in Prague that you will remember for a long time!

Once again, we do not claim that these are the best restaurants or dinner options in Prague for fine dining. Instead, we believe these are options that most people will enjoy because of the experience it gives. What do we mean by that? You will soon understand as you read about the different locations!

U Pavouka – music, food, dance, & theater.

This is just an incredible show and a restaurant in the center of Prague. As you enter the restaurant, you are taken into a cellar where it is dark, with candles everywhere. It is like traveling back in time to the Middle Age, and you are in a tavern with loud music, lots of beer, and a little fight between people now and then (that is the theater part).

In this restaurant you sign up for a full meal experience where you have unlimited drinks throughout the evening, and the food served is also meant to remind you of medieval times. The musicians are awesome, the actors are cool, and you might end up dancing along with them or even being part of the act from time to time if you sit in the right (wrong) places!

It might not be the cheapest meal in Prague, but it is definitely the one that you might remember longer than everyone else. We have been there (with kids), and they still remember it with great joy!

Brasileiro Slovanský Dům – lots of meat from a buffet.

I remember meeting a Brazilian guy who really missed the wide selection of meat he had at home in Brazil. I guess he had never been to Brasileiro Slovanský Dům in Prague. This is the place to go if you go nuts when it comes to meat. There are side dishes available as well, but the focus is first of all on the meat. You pay a set fee as you come to the restaurant (the price depends on when you arrive), and then you can eat as much as you want from the main dishes and the side dishes. Drinks are not included, so the all-included price is only valid for the food.

The restaurant is located in the Na Prikope street, a very central street in Prague, meaning that you can easily get there within a few minutes of walking from the Old Town Square in Prague.

What kind of food should you expect in the restaurant? Brasileiro Slovanský Dům will give you a fantastic churrasco experience, where meats are served tableside by skilled passadores, along with a rich buffet of salads, several sushi options, side dishes, and desserts. Doesn’t that sound nice? And if you want to taste the legendary Brazillian cocktail Caiprinha, that is also something you can order from the menu.

There is a price if you only want access to the sushi and salad bar, and there is another price if you want to eat all the meat served in addition. The prices vary between 825 CZK to 1300 CZK. Children under 6 can eat for free, while you pay half price for kids between 6 and 12 years of age.

U Medvídků – The Strongest Beer in Prague.

Would you like to taste the strongest beer produced in Prague? Does it sound cool to eat at a place that reminds you more of a German beer tavern? At U Medvidku we invite you to a beer dinner in which you get to experience a three course dinner with three beers served next to the courses (including the strongest beer produced in Prague). What makes this even more special is the fact that the place also is a brewery, meaning that the beer you drink only has to travel a few meters from the production area until it reaches your glass.

As you enjoy the meal, you get to taste a chocolate cake made with beer, grilled pork made with beer sause, a beer pretzel, and more delicious stuff. Doesn’t that sound cool as well? This is the perfect place to enjoy a dinner, both with your best friends, or with a larger group of colleagues and groups.

The restaurant (brewery) is less than 10 minutes on foot from the Old Town Square in Prague, so you do not need to stress about visiting a place far outside the city center.

Oblaca – Food with a view!

Have you heard of the Zizkov TV Tower in Prague? It is a popular place to visit as a tourist just to enjoy the splendid view. But, the place also has hotel suite, a large garden, and of course, a restaurant with high quality food and an awesome view. The restaurant Oblaca is located nearly 70 meters above the ground and as you eat your dinner here you can marvel at the beautiful view of Prague by night. The other options listed so far might not be fine-dining experiences, but at Oblaca you can eat food prepared from the best ingredients up among the clouds.

Since you might want to visit the TV tower anyway, this just gives you an additional excuse to visit the location and eat some Foie Gras and other delicassies while doing so. The restaurant and the tower has a dedicated parking lot making it easy to arrive by car. If you are located at the Old Town Square it should take you approximately 45 minutes to walk to the tower, but you can also travel close to the tower by using the metro system and travel from the stations “Staromestska” or “Mustek” in the center of Prague to the stop “Jiriho Z Podebrad.”

It is always amazing to eat on a boat on the river!

Eating on boats traveling on rivers in big cities is often recognized as a bad option if you want to experience fine dining. That might be true in Prague as well, meaning that if you want a fantastic meal with fantastic ingredients and that looks amazing on your plate, then you should probably dine in the Zizkov TV Tower instead. But, if you would like to eat traditional Czech food from a buffet on a boat, while looking at the sights and attractions of Prague located next to the river, then a buffet dinner on an evening trip is a perfect option.

The truth is, most people coming to Prague want to travel on the Vltava river at least once. So, why don’t you just do it in the evening and combine it with dinner? It is a fact that Prague is especially beautiful by night when the lights are turned on, meaning that you can enjoy the view of the Vitus Cathedral, the Castle, the Petrin Tower, Vysehrad, and so many other sights and bridges while they are illuminated. Most boats allow you to eat indoor, but to go outdoor on the roof to enjoy the warm/cold weather, make photographs, and to bring a drink along that you can drink while enjoying the view without a big window between you and the attractions you would like to see.

We hope you will have some fantastic meals as you visit Prague. You have a lot to look forward, and if you follow our suggestions in this article, we are quite convinced that you will travel home with memories that will last for a very long time!
